The Sunset Beach House - In Kihei, take Lipoa Street to the ocean and turn right on Uluniu. The address is 1292 Uluniu. You will see a 3 bedroom home on the left and a 2 bedroom ohana (guest house) on the right. The gas grill serves both houses. The waterfall/spa is reserved for the main house guests. Shopping
- The area north of Lipoa has almost everything, including restaurants,
a theater, a post office, DVD rental & take out sushi (next to Ace).
Costco (near airport on Dairy Rd) is the best place for food or snorkel
equipment.
Haleakala
- Drive to the top of this 10,000 foot mountain and watch the sunrise.
Allow two hours for the drive and be sure to take warm clothes. Take a
hike down into the crater. I like the hikes which start down the road
a bit from the summit. Adventurous types can cruise down Haleakala on
rented bicycles or take an unforgettable helicopter tour. Hana
- The winding road to Hana goes through a beautiful tropical rainforest.
Take along the CD tour of the drive. There are places where you can hike
to beautiful waterfall pools. Stop at Waianapanapa State Park and walk
along the truly spectacular waterfront. See the secluded red sand beach
in Hana (park on Uakea Road, walk to the ocean and go left). Explore at
Oheo Gulch. Start this day early; one day is just not enough for all the
wonders of the Hana area. Spend the night at one of the inexpensive cabins

Snorkel - Some of the best things Maui has to offer are underwater, and there are some very easy places to enjoy it. Try Ulua beach - there are showers, dressing rooms and an easy entry into normally calm, clear water. If you go past Wailea Shopping Village, you have gone too far. Take food if you want the fish up close and personal. Other easy snorkel spots are Polo Beach and Ahihi Bay. More advanced snorkelers may want to go to the end of the road to La Perouse Bay and swim along the rocks to the right ...or, snorkel around the Makena cinder cone. I almost always see turtles at Makena. (Some of the Molokini snorkel trips do a second dive in this area.) If the waves are small, there are good snorkel areas a short walk from the house. Scuba - You can become a certified scuba diver very inexpensively on Maui. Look for package deals with lessons and test dives. If you are certified, there are many good shore dives here. I like the Five Graves site the best. Grand
Wailea - Don't miss seeing the grounds and architecture of this fabulous
hotel. Day or night, it is great. They have a daily beakfast buffet. There
is a nice walking path behind these Wailea hotels. Further south is the
Maui Prince which has the best Sunday brunch on the island Makena
- The big beach past the Makena cinder cone is one of the best beaches
in Hawaii. If you hike over the rocks at the north end of Big Beach, you
will find Little Beach. This is often a good place for body surfing or
boogie boarding. This clothing optional beach can get crowded. It's a
good idea to go early ...or late in the day. Kayaking - You can join a tour group, or rent your own. Makena and Ahihi are good areas. If you go out behind my house and go right along the reef, you should see turtles. Wave kayaking is usually good at my house Hawaii
