Snorkeling
Some of the best things Maui has to offer are underwater. It's easy to join a snorkeling trip to Molokini (look down from the house to the left, you'll see a small island), which leaves out of Maalaea Bay - about 15-20 minutes from the house. We highly recommend Redline Rafting out of Kihei for snorkeling tours. They're one of the few that take you around the back wall of the Molokini crater. There are plenty of good snorkeling spots around Kihei, and you can rent equipment at one of the local shops, like Boss Frogs. Go as early as you can - the water will be calmer and visibility will be better. These are our favorite spots:

Scuba Diving
It's easy to become a certified scuba diver on Maui. The B&B Scuba shop is in Azeka Place, behind the house. Look for package deals with lessons and test dives. If you are certified, there are many good shore dives here. We like the Five Graves site the best. Kayaking Join a tour group or rent your own. Makena and Ahihi Reserve are good areas to explore. If you go out behind the house and stay along the reef, you should see turtles. Stand-Up Paddle Boarding & Surfing The water right in front of the house is ideal for SUP. Take SUP and surfing lessons in the cove at Kalama Park. There are several surf shops across the street from the park where you can book lessons and rent boards. The Maui Information Guide on surfing has a lot of valuable information about where to go and how to book lessons. Windsurfing / Kitesurfing If the wind is up in the afternoon, it's easy sailing right outside the house. If you look up the beach to the north, you'll typically see kitesurfers. These beaches are easily accessible from the north end of South Kihei Road. The best windsurfing and kitesurfing for experienced surfers is near the airport at Kanaha Beach. Deep Sea Fishing We don't do deep sea fishing, but our friends tell us to check out Kihei Kayak Fishing with Jon Jon. We recommend consulting TripAdvisor for other chartered fishing excursions. |
